About Sortie

The starting point

Sortie grew out of an observation familiar to anyone who travels for work: you arrive somewhere late in the afternoon, the meeting is over, the evening lies ahead — and you don't know where to go. In the end you stay in your room.

Not because there's nothing. But because you don't know what there is.

Search engines and review sites answer the question of which restaurant is good. They don't answer the question of where something is happening tonight. That's the gap Sortie is meant to close.

The stance

An evening is not a data trail. There's no reason to permanently store who was where and when. So we don't. That decision is the foundation of the product and isn't up for negotiation.

Restraint over insistence. Sortie speaks up when there's something to say — not to demand attention.

No advertising slots. Hosts pay nothing and can't buy visibility. What's shown depends on what's nearby and open tonight.

Reach

Sortie works anywhere there are places — it's built on open map data. How lively it feels somewhere depends on how many people and venues take part.

Who's behind it

Sortie is developed by Heiko Raschl, a sole trader based in Oberding near Munich. Development is self-funded, without investors.
